We have been concerned for some time now that we have not been receiving updated information for the community web site.  Some of the material was well out of date and we came to the conclusion that it would be better to remove all of the existing material and offer the chance for organisations or individuals to have their own web pages on the site, provided that they supplied the material in the form of web pages that were then kept up to date on a regular basis.

Woodingdean Community Association

A new FITNESS ROOM is to be opened shortly in the COMMUNITY CENTRE with equipment from a gym that had been forced to close.  The 'B' room has been divided and work is in progress.
The Community Centre is used by many local organisations.  It is hoped that details will be listed here later.  There are times when the Centre is not being used - especially on a Sunday.  There are a number of activities that could take place alongside the Fitness Room such as Table Tennis.
Anyone interested is encouraged to get in touch with Mark Whitehouse on 07747764084.

Age Concern & Open House

Age Concern have opened two new weekly HELP DESKS in Woodingdean. One is at the JAVA CAFE in Warren Road on Thursday mornings between 10-12.  The other is at the COMMUNITY CENTRE on Thursday afternoons from 2-4pm at the same time as OPEN HOUSE - an opportunity for older people to meet together for INDOOR BOWLS, TABLE TENNIS (we have two regular players over 80) or TABLE GAMES and the chance to simply chat over tea and biscuits.  It is hoped that it will be possible to arrange transport for a few people by minibus.  There is also a YOGA group for older people at 1.30pm. You can contact Peter or Barbara on 692987 for more information about Open House.

Special Interest Groups

We know that there are many people in the community with special interests.  This would be an opportunity to have a web page where your interests could be shared - to let others know what you are doing and/or a chance to find others with similar interests.
We would also like to consider the possibility of a Special Interest Notice Board for those who would simply like to make contact with others.
Many people for example will have read the history of the village of Balsdean, but have you visited the site which is on the edge of a nature reserve with some rare orchids?  Would anyone like to stroll around Castle Hill one morning with a small group?  Why not let us know if you might be interested.
We would like to hear of any special interests you might have - whether they are outdoor activities or indoors.  Are there people who would like to meet others who play Bridge, Scrabble, Rummikub, Chess ... ?
Whatever your interest you might find others with similar thoughts and ideas.

Links to local web sites

We would be pleased to provide links to other local web sites - including the possibility of recommended local businesses and tradesmen.

Let others know what you think about Woodingdean

Some think of Woodingdean as the 'lost community' while others wonder whether there is any community spirit here.
Whatever your age group, if you would like to share your thoughts of Woodingdean let us know by email and we will post your comments on the web site.  If enough people are interested we could even start a local forum.
